“The deepest parts of ourselves are not always meant to be conquered—they are meant to be faced, again and again, with courage and humility.”
Sometimes, our own depth can scare us. We feel lost, overwhelmed, and even shaken by the weight of it. To protect ourselves, we often look away—just as we avert our eyes from extreme heights or from the vast darkness of deep waters.
Certain things, activities, or even interactions with our inner world and soul can bring us face-to-face with that depth, and instinctively, we try to avoid it. Some people consciously distance themselves, choosing to mark themselves safe from ever having to dive in.
I relate more to the second group—the ones who dare to confront it.
Yet, even for me, there are days when the depth frightens me, when I retreat and avoid it altogether. And then there are other days when I prepare myself intentionally, gathering courage to step closer and face it head-on.
